In the lore Olympus universe I'd imagine the way it works is that apollo works driving the sun across the mortal realm whereas helios walks through Olympus during the day to provide a day/night cycle in the god's realm as well. Thanatos is the God of Death, he works under Hades in the Underworld and collects souls for him. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Helios is usually depicted as a handsome young man crowned with the shining aureole of the Sun who drove the chariot of the Sun across the sky each day to Earth-circling Oceanus and through the world-ocean returned to the East at night. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Helios is the one who tells Demeter that her daughter Persephone has been abducted by Hades.
He is also the one who restores the eyesight of Orion the Giant.
